This project proposes investigation of performance of a visual search task using a combination of brain stimulation and recording of event-related potentials. This is expected to provide insight into the specific processes in which the stimulated areas are involved and allow this to guide the use of brain stimulation to investigate beneficial stimulation in older adults. First, it is expected to provide fundamental information for brain stimulation studies. This will be achieved by highlighting a methodological approach that can help better determine the role of a brain area in brain stimulation experiments and allow better characterization of any effects of transcranial direct current stimulation, so aid with determining the validity of the effects of such stimulation. Second, it is expected to provide practically beneficial information regarding use of beneficial brain stimulation in older adults. By being able to characterize the nature of any effects this may help in an area where inconsistent results have been reported.
