;This study seeks to ascertain whether downstream firms can reduce unsustainable practices within their upstream supply chains through the implementation of supplier code of conduct and the disclosure of sustainable supply chain performance. Furthermore, this study investigates the influence of media attention on the correlation between these two practices and upstream supplier misconduct. This research examines publicly traded Taiwanese firms serving as downstream clients from 2020 through 2023, utilizing supplier disclosures within annual reports to create paired supply chain datasets. The Taiwan Economic Journal (TEJ) database, company annual reports, sustainability reports, the Market Observation Post System (MOPS), and Google Trends constituted the data sources for this research. Subsequent segmentation of the sample was performed to analyze the impact of media attention. Findings demonstrate a significant correlation between the implementation of supplier code of conduct combined with the disclosure of sustainable supply chain management performance by downstream firms, and a reduction in upstream supplier sustainability decoupling. This effect is amplified under conditions of heightened media scrutiny.
