看官們，您查尋過光碟資料庫嗎？林林總總，巧妙各有不同的檢索指令，是否令您滿頭霧水，傷透腦筋呢？在此，推廌您一項新服務--First Search。 一樣的指令，可以同時查尋多樣的資料庫耶！

First Search : 顧名思義，一流檢索也。 可以讓你不再迷霧光碟陣「螢」中。First Search是美國 OCLC (Online Computer Library Center, Inc.) 公司於 1990 年推出的一種線上參考服務檢索系統，目的在提供檢索國外多種書目性資料庫，每一種資料庫收錄特定主題或類型的書目資料。以下分別簡介各種書目資料庫的功能：

1) WorldCat： 是目前世界上最大的書目性資料庫，它包含58個國家18,000個圖書館約 3000 萬筆各種語文及各種主題及類型之書目資料並能顯示收錄此記錄原件的館藏代碼，查得後可進一步透過館際合作要求借閱。

2) ArticleFirst:屬期刊論文資料庫，可利用關鍵字或作者等來檢索約15,000種的西文期刊之文獻。

3) ContentsFirst:屬期刊目次資料庫，可線上查詢約15,000種西文期刊最新目次。

4) ContentsAlert Service: 加入此項服務的讀者可在期刊出版後72個小時內經由Internet 收到所需要的期刊目次。

5) PapersFirst:可利用關鍵字或作者等檢索各類主題的會議論文，目前提供1993年以來的會議文獻，並可透過國外館際合作申請取得原文。

6) ProceedingsFirst: 收錄1993年以後所召開之各種會議論文集之目次。

7) More than 40 other popular databases: 可線上檢索40多種索摘資料庫，分屬下列13種學科主題：

OCLC 為使台灣讀者享用並瞭解本線上資訊系統的功能給予免費三個月的試用期，即10月十七日迄明年(八十四年）一月十五日止。系統連線方式如下：

1.Connect to the Internet.

2.Enter "telnet fscat.oclc.org" and press FirstSearch responds , "You are connected to OCLC Online Reference Services. Enter your authorization."

3.Enter your FirstSearch authorization number and press .
