dc.description.abstract | The Tongcheng School had been one of the most important literature schools in Chinese literature history. During the 1900s, while the traditional and the new schools were integrating, the Tongchen School needed to examine its theories in this reform era. In the book “Literature Methodology”, Yao Yongpu discussed the formation, structure, styles, literature changes, and authors’ cultivation. It was the only book which discussed the Tongcheng School literatures. The book reflected the changes and adjustments that Tongcheng School authors made in response to the reform era. Most of the researches foucused mainly on the early and middle periods of Tongcheng School literatures, but little had been discussed about the recent periods’ theoretical integration. The purpose of this paper is to research Yao Yongpu’s literature theories, in order to show its timely importance.
