dc.description.abstract | Female writers of drama in Ch’ing-dynasty voiced internal feelings by writing.
Through role-playing, theatrical composition, and surrealistic writing, they skillfully
escaped the confusion regulations of the contemporary society, to develop the mental
world inside female writer, thereby expressing their own life experiences and emotion,
highlighting their difficulties to direct their own destiny resulting from the gender
discrimination in a paternity society back then, so as to build up female’s structure of
independence.
The present study intends to adopt four memoir dramas, like Ye Shou-won’s
Couple’s Dream,Wang Ying’s Prosperous Dream, Ho Pe-chu’s Pear Flower Dreamand
Liu Chin-yin’s Flower-Holding Realization, as the research subjects, it attempts to
figure out the root cause why the four dramas created during the period of more than
200 years from late Min-dynasty to late Ch’ing-dynasty all adopted the way of illusion
to express their real emotion and feeling? and how they could explain physical life
experience through the arrangement of theatrical composition, thereby unfolding
inside depression, anxiety and conflict, exhibiting their ideals and self-value, all these
are the key points to clarify of the present article.
Through vertical standpoint, this study firstly discusses the dramatic viewpoint of
Tom Hsian-chu’s “Dream due to emotion, Drama due to dream”, as well as the great
effects on female authors in Min and Ch’ing dynasties of Buddhism and Dow-religion’s
philosophy in relation to”Life is dream”. Further, it unfolds the thought content and
emotional aspiration of Min-Ch’ing’s female drama writers from the aspects of writing
motives and composition contents respectively, by means of fine analysis in the article.
