dc.description.abstract | With the popularity of the Internet and the development of computer technology, digital reading has raised many researcher and practitioners more attentions and affected the human reading style. In essence, digital reading habit is different from the conventional reading in the contents or reading behaviors. In this thesis, drawing on the related literature, the aims of this thesis primarily focus on investigating the differences in reading behaviors between the digital reading and paper form reading, and also further exploring the impact of the feathers of the Tablet PC and eBook on the reading habits.
The study included two stages. In the first stage, this thesis used questionnaire survey with an aim to explore the reading habits in Taiwan. In the second stage, this thesis employed the experimental method to understand the difference in the reading behavior between different devices.
The survey result showed that the group in the age range from 20 to 30 years old primarily relied on digital reading. The persons in this group almost developed digital reading habits, and the frequency of digital reading in this group was higher. The experimental results in the second stage showed that the reading performance on the Tablet PC is superior to on other devices. Therefore, to develop the digital reading, producing the design for the groups of digital reading is important for researcher and practitioners. In addition, the device factors should be taken into consideration while developing the digital reading. The results suggested that compared with using other digital reading devices, the person using a Tablet PC in depth reading and learning exhibited better performance. In conclusion, Tablet PC should be the most appropriate device for digital learning platform in the future.
