Individual role of users toward information systems (IS) implementation is gaining importance and complication. Earlier literature stressed on the user participation and user involvement. Line leadership and user ownership are brought about to further highlight the importance of users in the line department. Along the development, user-IS relationship is always the primary concern and partnership is a proven critical success factor of IS implementation. In this paper, primarily we are to examine the effect of project-oriented, psychological user ownership on the successful implementation of IS. Also we want to understand the effect of the partnership and the business ownership of IT professionals on the prior relationship. Key users are the analysis units in our study on account of their engagement in process assessment, analysis, system design and interaction with IT professionals. We developed a questionnaire with most questions items from empirically tested instruments and e-mailed to our target users of pre-selected companies. After the analysis of 132 valid empirical data, the research findings show that there is a positive relationship between user project ownership and the IS implementation success. User project ownership indeed contributes significantly to the IS project success. The business knowledge and responsibility of IT professionals is also enhancing the effect of user project ownership on the IS project success. Further, empirical data showed that sound user-IT partnership is essential for the business to fully exploit information technology and attain its maximum performance
