The main purpose of this paper is to investigate some new systems concepts on future HDTV system, and to propose a powerful personal computer (or workstation)-based software-oriented information management system located between the receiver and display systems of the HDTV system in order to take advantages of its high-quality display system in benefiting all multimedia information services. From systems integration viewpoint, and information manipulation and management considerations, the information management system has been proposed and concreted at a conceptual function level, which intends to integrate a variety of HDTV transmission systems together and to receive all available high-speed BISDN-based multimedia information services through its functions. In addition, a systems architecture for this proposed information management system has been figured out at a very high level.
