摘要: 研究期間:10108~10207;This research will explore and analyze the relationships among transnational communities, cultural policy and ethnic identity. With the rapid increase in the number of transnational communities, many new social phenomena, such as the development of cultural hybridity and the reconstruction of multiple identities, have pressed researchers in the social sciences to examine how transnational communities experience their complex and fractured everyday life, and to rethink some traditional concepts such as national culture, identity and ethnicity. Contemporary Hakka cultural phenomena will be discussed based on the concept of transnational community. Issues related to the Hakka people are important and relevant based on their long history of immigration, special culture and unique customs, as well as their abundant experiences of interaction with the local society. Following their migration to a new country or society, the Hakka wish to preserve their ethnic identity, collective memory and traditional culture; they therefore maintain cultural ties and interactions with their home country. As with many transnational communities, the Hakka culture has transcended national boundaries and continues to develop, diffuse and expand their cultural and ethnic identity. In addition, this research will examine the influences of cultural policy on transnational communities relative to the construction and reconstruction of their ethnic identities by various governments (Thailand, Taiwan and China) based on a case study of the Hakka in Thailand. Several research questions will be investigated, including: How does the Thai government develop their cultural policy regarding ethnic groups, especially minority groups? What are the main cultural policies that influence the Hakka identity and culture in Thailand? How do the policies of the Taiwan and China governments impact the cultural development of Thai‐Hakkas? And how do the Thai‐Hakka people create their own unique culture and identity under the various influences from Thailand, Taiwan and China?
