摘要: 研究期間:10106~10205;It has been our privilege since 2006 to have hosted the Kuo-Ting Lee Technology and Humanities Awards (popularly known as the “K.T. Digital Arts Awards”) sponsored by the Science Education Development Section of the National Science Council, Executive Yuan. The activity has been evinced by outstanding public participation and the highest levels of praise from the jurors for the numerous world-class submissions, which have not only ensured the event achieving its original objectives of illustrating the superlative results of the synergistic application of science and technology in the arts, but has served as a veritable wellsprings of Taiwan’s considerable creative talents, and as a key focal point among our universities for their competitive spirit to advance the state of the art. As a harbinger of the tremendous potential for the hidden energies of our creative impulses, we hope to build on this initiative’s initial successes to extend the project from one and a half years to a full three- year duration, so that we can further deploy the positive results to the 6th, 7th and 8th K.T. Digital Arts Awards competitions. For the next competition we plan to emphasize two objectives in particular; first, continuing the successful hosting of the event in conjunction with the “Taipei Digital Arts Festival”. This activity serves as an important practical marketing platform which selects the most outstanding event proposals for cooperative production. The previous years’ Digital Arts Festivals have included such activities as the Taipei Digital Arts Awards, an invitation-only International Exhibition, Digital Arts Performance and Creative Forum, and the premiere of the K.T. Digital Arts Award in the third annual Festival. These activities not only yielded an impressive two-month exhibition at the Taipei Museum of Contemporary Arts, attracting more than 35,000 visitors; but also proved alluring to numerous student groups and international guests through the weekend on-site docent efforts for the public providing appealing explanations of the many intriguing applications of technology in the digital arts (see Appendix I). On the day of the event opening, it was our pleasure to have hosted the Secretary General (Executive Director) of the Kuo-Ting Lee Technology Development Foundation, Mr. Chichao Wan, as well as a personal appearance by the son of the late Senior Counselor to the President Kuo-Ting Lee, Mr. Yung-Chang Lee, to join us in celebrating this unprecedented exploration of the ingenius and inspired applications of technology in the arts and culture, as means of furthering scientific education and discovery, and achieving substantial digital and print media exposure (see Appendix II). Thus, if this project is approved (for conduct of the 6th, 7th and 8th “K.T. Digital Arts Awards”), we expect that this will substantially advance our promotion of the synergistic diffusion of technology in the arts and humanities, imbuing the widest spectrum of the arts with the latest high-technologies, fully evincing the significance of widespread adoption of technologically advanced science education, distilling our inherently unbounded domestic innovation potential, while serving as a profoundly appropriate living memorial to the key achievements of former Presidential Counselor Mr. Kuo-Ting Lee’s lifetime dedication to advancing technology and inculcating the finest cultured values and dedication. With the upcoming “Taipei Digital Arts Festival” to be sponsored by the Taipei City government, and hosted by the Taipei Digital Arts Center, we can rightly expect that not only will there be widespread domestic and international participation, but that the invitation-only International Exhibition will heighten interest, as over the past two years (2009-2010) it has enjoyed involvement from numerous world renown digital artists (see Appendix III); so jointly hosting the “K.T. Digital Arts Awards” once again in conjunction with this important global creative forum can ensure optimal synergies. The second critical focus of this project involves promotion of the development of top notch science and technology professionals. To achieve these objectives we are emphasizing the three major areas of interactive digital arts, digital edutainment and electronic games, and animation for the conduct of workshops and seminars during the events. These initiatives will involve concomitant participation from specially invited industry experts with cutting edge expertise along with the K.T. Digital Arts Award winners, providing an intimate forum for exchanging hands on knowledge and creative concepts, to inspire the public and persuade young digital artisans to better appreciate the broad landscape of technological applications in the digital arts, helping to further broaden the horizons for the next generation of innovative artists and scientists. From the accumulation of wisdom and experience over the previous years’ awards, we have found that the submission of our proposal for continued support have been timed to coincide with the extensive media outreach we conduct to promote the K.T. Digital Arts Awards events, resulting in exacerbated stresses to our project team. So we are hoping this year to help overcome this by receiving funding for a three-year extension, allowing us the much needed breath of encouragement to ensure the additional inspiration required for successfully expanding the event’s promotional reach and pre-event planning for maximal results. Our project work will be deployed in four phases. The first phase involves successfully hosting the 6th K.T. Digital Arts Awards’ roving seminar series and collection of submissions for the competition, followed by the second phase where the juries sit to evaluate the submissions for the awards and prize funds, with the winning entries appearing on display at the Taipei Digital Arts Festival. The third phase involves our hosting the “K.T. Digital Arts Forum” with all the competition winners enjoying group invitations to participate, along with leading domestic and international academic and industry experts specializing in the “knowledge economy” and “digital contents” fields to provide guidance through mutual sharing of their contributions to the digital content field as well as participation in international digital arts conferences, symposia and exhibits, to provide further concrete advancement to the spirit of universal scientific education through academic-industry collaboration and cooperative education activities. In the fourth phase, we begin to collect submissions for the next competition, while also working to ensure opportunities for those interested in engaging in the latest applications and digital breakthroughs to the arts to acquire global exposure and experience, through arranging animation, interactive digital arts and digital edutainment/e-games workshops and seminars, with instruction from leading industry and academic experts, to achieve maximum visibility and optimal outreach for the promotion of the digital arts field and the growing prestige of the K.T. Digital Arts Awards.
