    摘要: 隨著有線電視(Cable Television;CATV)的普及化,家家戶戶幾乎都有同軸電纜到達,如何利用同軸電纜網路提供加值服務,增加有線電視業者本身的收入來源,是各有線電視業者多元化經營的努力目標。其中網際網路的多媒體服務是大家最看好的商機,纜線數據機(Cable Modem)技術因而出現。一般人以為纜線數據機只是家中看到的數據機盒子,其實纜線數據機是一個系統,它包含一個頭端(Head-end)系統來和整個網際網路連結。從頭端到用戶端大多採用新的光纖同軸混合(Hybrid Fiber/Coax,簡稱HFC)架構,即主幹線(trunk)部分採用光纖電纜而後以數條同軸電纜拉出,每條同軸電纜再利用樹枝狀(branch and tree)架構之方式拉至用戶家中,每個光纖節點約可服務500-2000個家庭左右。利用此架構傳輸品質大幅改善,若加上雙向放大器等元件,光纖同軸混合(HFC)網路即可具有雙向傳輸能力。
    隨著多媒體網際網路的蓬勃發展,使得一般家庭對於高速率傳輸的需求大增,想像著一個人坐在電腦前面,隨著滑鼠指標的點擊,就能輕鬆看到Full HD的電影或是高解析度的熱門球賽,或是正在玩激烈的線上遊戲,無需任何等待下載的時間,也不會有任何延遲的情況發生,就像在電影院看電影或在看現場球賽一樣,不會有任何延遲或停止,這就是網路的魅力。有線電視業者無不在致力於提供更大的網路寬頻和更好的服務品質,來因應快速頻寬的需求和多樣化的網路服務。然而面對廣大市場的需求,全球各大小廠商紛紛投入大量資金競相擴產,伴隨著產業產能及技術提升,已讓產品價格大幅下降。因此,如何在激烈的產業競賽中取得競爭優勢,是非常值得研究的一個課題。
    本研究以有研發能力的公司為例來分析其在纜線數據機的競爭優勢。研究方式將以「需求特徵分析」問卷調查方式探討個案公司在競爭激烈的產業中,如何以自有品牌強化競爭優勢,才能在競爭激烈的環境中有新創意且找到新的商機。;As Cable Television (CATV) are popular, almost every household has coaxial cable installed. For the CATV service providers, how to use the installed coaxial cable network to provide value-added services are the target of Multiple System Operator (MSO) to diversify their revenue streams. Among all kinds of service, audio and video service over Internal Access service is one the most booming business opportunities that everyone can see. That is how Cable Modem (DOCSIS) technologies were founded as industrial standard. Most of people only see Cable Modem as one box at home, but it is only part of complicated system. It includes Head-End System (CMTS) and backbone connections. The connection mix the media of fiber and Coaxial cable as Hybrid Fiber/Coax (HFC). On the trunk CATV network use fiber and while need to subscriber house it convert into coaxial cables. The topology of coaxial cable formed as branch or tree. From fiber node it split into 500~2000 nodes to subscribers house. The transmission qualities are guaranteed as through coaxial shielded cable to isolate the noise radiated in the air. Adding bi-directional amplifiers, it enables the duplex communication to go surf over Internet.
    As the demand of multimedia service increases over Internet. It makes users more addict on higher bandwidth and speed. Considering setting in front laptop by clicking on mouse, users can have FullHD movies or high definition sports game; or playing on-line games without waiting for long download time and almost no delay on getting those contents. That makes you just like seeing movie inside theater or watching sports game in studio. This is the power and fascinating part of high speed internet. This inspirit CATV operator to invest and provide more bandwidth and better service level agreement to meet the demands from population for faster, wider internal access services. As this is vast market demand drives vendors to provide technologies, investments and final solutions to upgrade the capacities, technologies inside CATV industry. The competition also help to drive the budget on enabling service goes down. Nevertheless, for those vendors and suppliers, how to make them stay competitive will still challenge to those who are inside the CATV industry.
    In this article, trying to create model of a technologies oriented company on how to survive and being competitive in CATV industry on making Cable Modem. The method used is "demand characteristics of" questionnaire investigate the case in the highly competitive industry. How to strengthen the competitive advantage of its own brand, in order to have new ideas in a highly competitive environment and find new opportunities.
