關鍵字:悲劇、苦難、死亡、生命關懷;Based on an analysis of Li Rui’s Heavy Dirt collection and Tree Without Wind, this research contains five chapters, aiming to explore the novelist’s perception of tragedy as well as concern for human dignity revealed in his works. The first chapter describes the thesis preparations involved, including research motive and purpose, exploration of tragedy theories, literature reviews, research method, and thesis structure. The second chapter represents specific tragedy stories, which can be categorized into two types: individual existential tragedy as well as history-induced tragedy as a result of revolution and social turmoil. The third chapter, using peasants, women, and educated youths as examples, classifies tragedy personages and analyzes their attitude in the face tragedy. The fourth chapter deals with Li’s concern for human dignity. Revealed by a focused discussion on the writer’s attention to life and death is his affirmative recognition of human relationship and a profound interpretation of death. The last chapter concludes the study and suggests possible directions for future research.
