    Title: 資訊用光碟機設計製造廠商經營策略之探討─以P公司為例

    Abstract: 說到資訊生活,就不能不提到電腦使用的數位資料儲存裝置。回顧過去用於儲存數位資料的磁帶機經過六十多年科技演進,現今仍然持續使用中;光儲存產業裡的光碟片和光碟機,也是儲存電腦數位資料不可或缺的裝置之一。儘管光儲存特性目前並沒有其他類似產品可以取代,但因為網路興起、消費者使用習慣改變等因素使得其重要性逐漸降低,在研究機構統計數據中也顯示資訊用光碟機需求量確實逐年下降。擁有多年資訊用光碟機研發生產技術的個案公司是目前全球僅存二家廠商之一,面對產品進入衰退期、產業變化和市場衝擊,如何運用本身在光碟機技術上的優勢,持續精進並發展出符合供需變化之可行策略,是本研究的主要目的。
    經由個案研究的方式,從外在的產業變化到個案公司內部的資源配置,分別以五力分析和SWOT矩陣策略進行綜合探討。在研究過程中輔以次級資料蒐集研判,嘗試理解現今光碟機產業出現的機會、威脅、產業結構變化、產業競爭情況以及未來可能的發展趨勢,採用SWOT矩陣解析個案公司本身的優勢和劣勢,並與產業機會和威脅交互分析。
    研究發現由於光碟片及光碟機相關技術仍持續演進,強化光儲存設備本身的特性之外,同時增強較其他儲存媒體不足之處,讓光碟機更適用於新需求領域。一旦有了適當且符合需求的產品,光碟機能與磁帶機同時持續被使用於數位資料儲存的機會大幅增加。期望經由本研究能提供個案公司具體可行之攻擊、差異化、防禦及退避等經營策略組合調整之方向。;In this information explosion era, the digital data storage devices play a very important role in everyone’s daily life. Improvement over several decades, tape and hard disk devices using magnetic technology are still in use these days. Optical disc and optical disc drives (ODD) employing optical technology also take essential roles in storing digital data. The unique characteristics of ODD related products should allow the products to have a niche market position even though the widespread usage of the Internet and changing behavior of customers have made the optical storage no longer a must-have device in current PC configuration. Many reports also show that the number of ODD sold has been decreasing over time. However, the optical technology that can be employed in storage systems should still be important due to the long-term durability of the storage medium.
    P company, one of the only two remaining companies in ODD design and manufacturing worldwide, is inevitably facing several problems such as product value declining, industrial changes and impacts. The main purpose of this research is to sort out P company’s current advantages in ODD technology and develop strategies for the company to adapt to the changing environment. By applying the case study methodology, we use the Porter five forces and SWOT analyses to breakdown the external and internal related factors. For industrial analysis, we collect market data and apply Porter’s five forces analysis to fully understand the opportunities, threats, structural changes, competitors and future trends of the ODD industry. For the company’s internal analysis, we go through SWOT analysis to find out the strategies the company could take to capture the future trends and possible markets.
    In this study, we discover that new techniques of optical disc and ODD can still be brought forward and many competitive features of optical storage have been proposed continuously. All these progresses make ODD more viable in cloud systems. We hope this study has provided useful suggestions to the case company and other related companies.
