;Epithelial tissues are composed of proliferative cells and differentiated cells and the distribution of these cells inside the tissue often shows stratified structure. In this thesis, we propose a theoretical model to study monolayer epithelial tissues with different shapes. We show that within our model it is easy to calculate the distribution of proliferative cells, the flow field and the pressure in both steady state tissues and growing tissues. We show that cell events such as cell division, cell differentiation and apoptosis are important in shaping the distribution of cells, flow field, and pressure in the tissue. In particular, the pressure field around the transition region between the proliferative cell niche and differentiated cell niche shows a local minimum due to the sudden change of flow field caused by the spatially fast-varying cell differentiation rate.
