;In the 21st century, thanks to the rapid development of the Internet, the best way to obtain information is usually to pick up a mobile phone, open a browser, enter your keywords, and then view some of the tens of millions of Internet item matches that your search engine immediately amasses. The price of this convenience is the issue of how much of the data is correct or true when there is so much data available. In this age of instantaneous information access, when it is so often difficult to distinguish fact from fiction, sifting the truth out of all this information has become a very important issue! In today’s society, the public’s dependence on the Internet is also increasing. Additionally, when in pursuit of the latest information, or when in search of facts about the past, the subconscious will also be influenced by the Internet, so I believe that we should take advantage of this era and use the Internet for literary and creative purposes.
In order to create, of course, there needs to be a basic idea behind the creative project and strategies to bring the creation to life. I have chosen to use “Mr. Huang Wangcheng’s Diary” as my creative inspiration, because this work, set in the Hsinchu area of which Mr. Huang Wangcheng is a native, portrays the author’s career as a teacher, and records his numerous experiences of walking through the streets and avenues of Hsinchu City. Perhaps the most valuable aspect of this autobiographical book is the wealth of local history and personal experience that it contains, and therefore preserves for modern and future generations to discover. Following Mr. Huang’s example, I would like to combine material from multiple historical sources and weave them into a narrative of my own. Many of the accounts in Mr. Huang’s Diary are based on things he learnt from historical materials, public documents and the archives of government agencies, etc. The mainstay of Mr. Huang’s Diary combines personal experience with historical record, to create a work that is very different from standard academic literature. In keeping with this, I believe that good historiography should draw on information gained from multiple channels, so that it has the ability to appeal to different readers in different ways, thereby raising their awareness of history and its importance. In my project I also hope to argue that our understanding of history should be predicated on as many sources as possible, and in this respect we should make use of the modern technology at our disposal to enrich that understanding to the greatest degree possible.
