;The Sing-song Girls of Shanghai, written by Han Bangqing (1856–1894), is one of the classic novels of Brothel Literature in the Late Qing Dynasty. The novel vividly depicts the romantic entanglements between courtesans and their clients within Shanghai’s foreign concessions. This study approaches the text through the lens of sensory experience, with particular attention to the perception of time and space in the context of the treaty port. It further examines interpersonal dynamics, performances of desire, and emotional yearnings portrayed in the narrative. By moving from external environments to internal sensations, the study aims to sketch a modern sensory cartography that connects the public spectacle of the city to the private sentiments of the individual.
