;With the rapid development of digitalization worldwide, the manufacturing industry is facing unprecedented pressures for transformation. Digital transformation is not only a means to enhance operational efficiency and innovation capabilities, but for the manufacturing sector, it has become a critical factor for the survival and development of enterprises. This is especially true for small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises (SMEs), which face even more complex challenges in their transformation process. The success or failure of digital transformation directly impacts their competitiveness and future development. However, despite the undeniable importance of digital transformation, many SMEs encounter various challenges and difficulties during its implementation, with transformation failures occurring frequently.
As a capital-intensive industry, the process of digital transformation in manufacturing is particularly challenging. The application of digital technologies such as smart manufacturing, big data analytics, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT) can significantly enhance production efficiency and market responsiveness. However, for many SMEs, the introduction of these new technologies is constrained by factors such as funding, technology, and talent. Particularly in SMEs, due to limited resources, digital transformation often lacks sufficient technological infrastructure and management support, leading many enterprises to fail in achieving the desired outcomes during the transformation process. In some cases, transformation efforts may even exacerbate the company′s difficulties.
Therefore, this study aims to explore the key failure factors that traditional small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises face during the digital transformation process, and analyze how these factors influence the competitiveness and long-term development of these enterprises. |
